A Ninth Grade Student Drinks Excessively With His Pals, Almost Dies From Alcohol Poisoning, And Finds Out That Learning Something In Class Can Affect Your Life

Andy was a ninth grader who frequently seemed to be living on the edge. Andy had an adventurous personality and frequently wanted to do what his older brothers were doing. After drinking more or less six glasses of wine, Andy started to feel nauseous and then threw up. When he became unconscious on the tennis court, one of his guy friends called 911 for assistance. It was fortunate that the call for medical help was made because when his guy friends went to the hospital to see Andy, they were informed that Andy had been exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms. To be more specific, Andy had suffered through an alcohol overdose.

After getting alcohol poisoning treatment, Andy was quite surprised to discover that he had overdosed on alcohol because he "only" had more or less five or ten drinks. When he articulated this to the attending physician at the hospital, in spite of this, the healthcare professional notified Andy that drinking five or ten cans of beer over a two or three hour period of time could in reality be quite a bit more alcohol than can be processed by the body. The healthcare practitioner further explained how significant amounts of alcohol can cause the brain to shut down an individual's breathing and that when this takes place, a person can expire.

This was the first word of warning to Andy that he was drinking in a dangerous way and that there are consequences deeds. The healthcare professional told Andy that he was a fortunate young man because he almost died from an alcohol overdose the previous night.

The doctor also spoke to Andy's parents and suggested that they get alcohol rehab for Andy. His parents were ecstatic that Andy was safe and sound and notified the physician that they would follow through on getting Andy alcohol therapy.

While conversing with his parents, Andy told them that there must be a solid reason why he did not die and that he was grateful that he was still alive. He also notified his parents that the weirdest part about the entire drinking situation was that he had learned about alcohol poisoning the past week at school.

At the time, what his health instructor, Mr. Johnson, was saying didn't seem to make a lot of sense to Andy. Now that he almost passed away, in spite of this, he felt that he should have listened more conscientiously in class and applied what he had learned to his personal life.

Andy told his parents that he couldn't wait to go back to Mr. Johnson's classroom and apologize to Mr. Johnson for not showing more attention to something that was as noteworthy as learning about alcohol poisoning.
