Even though Franklin wasn't an attorney, he told his son that he learned the hard way when as a young man he received a "driving under the influence" arrest, represented himself in court, paid thirty-five hundred dollars in fines and penalties, and served six months in the jail downtown. As he mentioned to his son, after he got out of jail, he found out from a lawyer friend that had he hired a "drunk driving" attorney in the first place, he more likely than not would have had his fines and penalties considerably reduced and he might have never served any time in the city jail.
When Lawrence heard this he knew he needed more DUI facts and so he asked his dad for more information about what a "drunk driving" attorney can do in a "driving under the influence" arrest. His dad then stated the following: "DUI attorneys work within a specialized area of jurisprudence known as DUI criminal law. DUI lawyers have access to legal techniques, research data, and information of which other lawyers may not be aware. When Lawrence heard his father explain this, it was as if his eyes were opened for the first time about the importance of hiring a DWI attorney. Near the end of their conversation, Lawrence said that he was starting to grasp the importance of DWI laws and what "drunk driving" lawyers can do for a person who has received a "drunk driving" arrest.
After getting "schooled" about "drunk driving" arrests, the role of "driving under the influence" attorneys, and understanding that he didn't have to agree to take any field sobriety tests at the time of his arrest, Lawrence decided that he would without question hire a "drunk driving" attorney to represent him in the local court. Something else, however, happened after he had talked to his father. Lawrence at last began to realize the serious nature of DWI arrests and, as a result, he decided that from this moment forward, he would always drink responsibly so that he would never again have to go through another "driving under the influence" arrest.
His dad smiled at Lawrence and mentioned the following: "Lawrence,it took me until I was fifty-five years old to realize what you just told me. I am really proud of you." This did wonders for his self esteem and so Lawrence thanked his dad and then said, "if I can always drink responsibly, I will never have to hire a DUI lawyer again!"
Regrettably, there was one issue that neither Lawrence nor his father considered, namely, if Lawrence is manifesting any alcohol abuse signs or maybe if he is manifesting any of the usual signs of alcoholism. In truth, if Lawrence is displaying any alcohol signs that indicate alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse, he may need alcohol rehabilitation.
In all honesty, Lawrence may be mandated by the court to get rehabilitation for his excessive and abusive drinking. The positive news, conversely, is that whatever it takes to face his unhealthy and abusive drinking, it seems like Lawrence will be motivated to do the "correct" thing.
