My first exposure to online books was in school. Although we always had the choice to buy text-books in the store, many of the college instructors put their books online as well. Doing this would save the students money and let them access the publications from any PC in the school. This meant that you never had to lug around your textbooks - a major advantage after a semester of slogging through the snow.
At first, I was not very into publications on-line. I couldn't get into it, you see. It just did not feel correct to me. I like to be able to relax with a book, holding it in my hand and turning the pages. I could tell where things were located and recall the pages by their location. With the publication online, you cannot do any of these things. It strains your eyes, requires you to sit upright in the same pose for hour upon hour, and is extremely hard to flip your way all the way through. I also like audio books on CD, though.
After a few years of online publication reading, however, I was much more used to the method, just like I had gotten used to audio books. I had already started to buy publications on-line for almost every use. I bought sports books on-line, textbooks online - you name it. Not only did the internet let me buy printed publications inexpensively, but it also let me access many items that were out of print.
Reading books on line is not truly that good for modern literature which you can buy inside the store. You may as well either purchase it or take it out of the library, or listen to it, with books on cd. The great thing about books on-line, however, is that you may often find quite old ones with only a little trouble. Resources such as Project Gutenberg enable you to access the great classics of literature from all times and places around the world. As long as it is no longer copy-protected, you can legally put the publication on-line.
Of course, the area where publications online have the greatest advantage of all is with audio books. The awesome thing about audio publications on-line is that it is so much more expedient than needing to take them out of the library or go to an audio book store. Instead, you can just down-load them to your PC and listen to them at your convenience. If you want to bring them with you, you can put them on an iPod or burn them onto Disc. Audio publications on-line make total sense.
