Tell your dog firmly that you want him to sit, then place one hand under his jaw and your other hand on his back near the tail bone, gently tilt his head up and push his rear end down, when he is in the sitting position show him that you are pleased with him and give him a treat.
If you keep repeating this lesson, your dog will respond to the sit command, because he understands that by doing what he is told he will be rewarded and also because he can sense that you are pleased with his efforts. Ultimately your dog will heed you as a matter of course, and the treats will no longer be necessary.
