Our wonderful land of the free, home of the brave, country never seemed too alarmed about the sun's rays. Even though we know for a fact that the sun's damaging rays can and will cause premature aging, sun spots, wrinkles, and often melanoma, we still continue on in it like mindless idiots. Go figure that one out. Oh wait, we can't forget about the image issue at-hand. Most folks are primarily concerned with being tan. They frequently think tan equals beautiful. Well guess what, the last time I checked; old, leathery and wrinkled was not that attractive. Looks like America needs a somber wake-up call. Bust out the sun-block SPF35, the polarized sunglasses, and the sun protection hats. The summer will be back before we know it.
Some time back the belief was commonly accepted that sunbathing helped get rid of acne. I guess this started with the idea that the skin needed to be dried out. While this might have helped in getting rid of acne in some cases the price paid for it is not worth it. Things are different over seas. Take the island of Taiwan for example. They could care less about tanning, and were much more excited about looking young as long as possible . Hmm, made good sense to me. So why can't America learn from this example? Even as time passes and exposure to the sun is discouraged, people still carry on sunbathing and strive for rich dark tans to keep year-round. It's an enigma no doubt.
