The Wedding Ceremony Is A Lot Of Couples' Main Focus, But The Wedding Rehearsal Dinner Can Be Memorable, Too

There are numerous arrangements, expenses and stresses that go along with planning a wedding ceremony. If couples aren't watchful they can get so involved with planning the wedding day and endeavoring to get all the details right that there's little time to enjoy the experience. When my niece was planning her wedding she had three bridal showers to attend, reception plans to finalize and was trying to nail down a venue for the rehearsal dinner. The third wedding shower was given at my house. I'm her godmother so I had wanted to make it special for her. Several days before the shower we talked on the phone. She sounded very anxious. She and her fiance were also having challenges finding the best wedding songs for the nuptials. I recommended that she arrive the night before the shower and stay overnight and we would relax and I would help her create a list of what still had to be done prior to the wedding day. She thought this sounded like a wonderful plan.

I did the vast majority of the preparations for the wedding shower prior to my niece coming so that we could concentrate on her needs. She stated that the rehearsal dinner was her main stress because of the fact that the spot they had reserved had double booked, so they needed to find a new location. We began by working on finding the best wedding songs for the wedding ceremony so we could get one stress out of the way thereby giving confidence that the other would be managed as well. As I predicted finding the best wedding songs was just a matter of searching the web, listening to samples, ordering what was selected and that was that. Now to tackle the rehearsal dinner.

The rehearsal supper is traditionally done by the groom's family; in fact most people refer to the occasion as the groom's banquet. My niece's fiance is from another state so his family is prepared to pay for the rehearsal dinner, but they're not able to assist with making the arrangements. My niece had contacted the restaurant where the wedding reception will be held, but the only room they have was the section where the wedding reception would be taking place. My niece stated that the plan was to decorate the wedding reception area prior to going to the church for the rehearsal.

We called two nearby restaurants to see if they could accommodate the rehearsal dinner. Both had other events scheduled. Her fiance's father and mother are divorced, also both have remarried. This meant that there were more people that would be at the rehearsal dinner. This was also adding to her anxiety because she was attempting to figure out the etiquette for seating. She had the seating chart arranged for the wedding, but not knowing the spot the rehearsal dinner would be happening restricted her opportunity to arrange a chart.

I asked my niece if she had called the church to look into if the fellowship area would be available. Everyone could just mingle and have a light catered meal. This would be quite a bit less formal and would be easy to plan. The fellowship area was not being used that date. We called two delis and ordered catering. My niece called her fiance and told him the new plans for the rehearsal dinner. He thought this sounded great. He would make arrangements to have a friend of his tend bar and would arrange for the drinks.

The rehearsal dinner was a fine relaxed evening. The guests were able to mingle and socialize and the bride and groom didn't feel the need to sit in one spot while everyone ordered their food and had it served. With having a buffet line the atmosphere was very casual and the out of town guests didn't have to try and find another location in an area that they were not familiar with.
