Thanksgiving wouldn't be Thanksgiving without having a turkey. I like turkey as much as the next individual, however sometimes the Thanksgiving turkey can get somewhat bland. In my family, we actually prefer to mix things up a little bit. Heck at times we'll as well miss the turkey in favor of something a bit less traditional like ribs or prime rib. However for people who want the traditional Thanksgiving Turkey there're lots of methods to prepare a turkey (including smoking your turkey, cooking your turkey in a turkey fryer, etc.). Here are 5 different methods to cook turkey which are a bit different than normal, however just as tasty.

Roasted Turkey - First, I simply have to add Grandma's favourite roasted turkey. After all, what would Thanksgiving be without having Grandma's roasted turkey and home made mashed potatoes? This roasted turkey is the simplest turkey recipe you'll get. Basically, you take out the giblets and clean the turkey in cold water. Pat the turkey dry then insert three Tbsp of butter under the skin. Prepare a soup made of water, chicken bouillon, onion powder, parsley, table salt and pepper. Pour the broth directly on the turkey, cover with foil and cook for 3 1/2 hours at 350. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes more for a golden brown skin. Serve with home made mashed potatoes, gravy, as well as your favorite Thanksgiving dishes!

Barbeque Turkey - We love to grill and grill throughout the year, whatever the weather. We put everything else on the grill, why not a turkey too? Grilling a turkey gives it a special taste and texture that you just can't get from an oven. When barbecuing a turkey, put the turkey in a baking pan over the flames; in this way you can actually baste the turkey periodically the same way you would do if you were roasting it.

Deep fried Turkey - People who love crisp turkey skin will LOVE deep fried turkeys. A deep fried turkey is mouth watering and using a turkey fryer to cook turkeys is becoming a lot more popular, particularly now that the turkey fryer is becoming a common kitchen appliance. While most turkey fryers are deep fryers in which you use peanut oil in a huge frying pot, there are also oil-less infrared turkey fryers too, that eliminate a lot of the mess of frying. Deep fried turkeys tend to have dark crisp skin (which my family fights over!), and underneath that delicious skin is soft, perfectly cooked meat that all your family will love.

Turducken - This odd sounding turkey is a combination of various de-boned fowl: turkey, duck, and chicken. All of them are put together and layered with filling to create this newest addition to the Thanksgiving table.

Smoked Turkey - One amongst my favorite methods of preparing turkey is smoking it. I just love the flavor of a smoked turkey, together at Thanksgiving dinner as well as for those wonderful leftover turkey sandwiches. Smoking a turkey takes several hours, but it can be soooo worth it! One tip while smoking a turkey - placing a pan of water over the smoker will help hold in moisture and create a moist, juicy turkey that everybody will enjoy.

How will you cook your Thanksgiving Turkey this year? At our house we will be using our brand new masterbuilt electric turkey fryer. My husband and his sister fight over the crispy skin, that is always fun to watch :) I hope you found some new and tasty methods to cook your turkey this holiday. Happy Thanksgiving!
